Congratulations to two of our clubs for their performance during this past weekend's Ventana Ranch Christmas Parade.  The Spanish Club and Spanish National Honor's Society team up and won the best Holiday Spirit award.  In addition, for their armed drill and saber drill exhibition, including our own Holly and Hank the Hawk, the Air Force JROTC cadets claimed the Most Entertaining Award.


Attention Academic Decathlon team members: Remember we have a competition this afternoon.  Meet in Mrs. Taylor's room right after school


Culinary Club will be meeting at lunch in room G202 today to discuss our holiday luncheon!


There will be a Holiday Band Concert tonight in the PAC at 6:30.

Have you lost your pants? Misplaced your shirt? Can't find you left shoe? Stop by the Activities Office and look in the lost and found. We will be donating all unclaimed items to a charity at the end of the semester.


ATTENTION STUDENTS!! The 1st Semester Final Exam Schedule has changed. You can view the changes any time on our website at volcanovistahawks.aps.edu. Put this information on your Student Agenda.


Wednesday 12/18/13, A-day final exams

Thursday 12/19/13, B-day final exams

Friday 12/20/13, C-day make up final exams, as scheduled through administration or for excused absences only from Wednesday & Thursday. Buses will run on the regular schedule and sack lunches will be available for students who need to attend on Friday.

Attention staff and students - our winter staff/student challenge will be Monday, January 6-Friday, January 10.  We will have a volleyball tournament that week and encourage students and staff to sign up for this event next week in the activities office.  Sign ups will be during lunch in the activities office the week of finals. Must have teams of 6, which can be all students, all staff or a mix of staff and students.  Games will start on Monday, January 6 at lunch in the main gym.  Each team must pay $1 per player and are guaranteed games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday will be championship play with the finals happening at the assembly on Friday.

Attention students – Volcano Vista's student ambassadors will be kicking off the spring semester with daily lunch activities in the north mezzanine of the gym Monday, January 6 - Thursday, January 9.  Come out to the north mezzanine (where you played hockey in PE) and enjoy the daily activities.  Monday's event will be an ice-cream social; Tuesday's event will be an art activity; Wednesday's event will be a fashion theme activity and Thursday's event will be a tolerance activity.  Come one – come all.

DRIVERS ED: If you are interested in enrolling in driver's ed for the spring semester, please listen carefully. An announcement will be made regarding registration during the first week of the spring semester. That announcement will direct you to the activities office, which will have a sign-up sheet and an information/permission slip. Enrollment priority is given to those who qualify and who return signed permission slips consistent with the directions you will find on those slips. Please note that the class meets after regular school hours, 2:35-3:40 Monday through Thursday, for the entirety of the semester once class starts.

Seniors: You must choose your pose for the yearbook by December 20th. For more information contact Mr. Woods in A115.Don't forget you can still order your yearbook online and senior ads are still available for purchase. You can pick up a form in the Activities Office.

Attention All Fashionistas! Tomorrow is Ugly Holiday Sweater Day. We will be giving prizes to the winner! Go shopping now!

National Honor Society Members: Our annual Winter Break Pizza Lunch will be held on Monday, Dec 16th, in front of the Theater.  All NHS members should plan on attending. Be prompt and enjoy pizza and salad as we end the first semester.


FINALS are coming, and so are FINALS SURVIVAL KITS! These kits provide study aids and warm and sweet treats to help you prepare for exams. If you purchased a kit for someone, or someone purchased a kit for you, look for it to be delivered on Lucky Friday the 13th. Study effectively, and end the semester successfully.

COUNSELING:


Seniors, if you haven't done so already now is the time to apply for college to begin next fall.  You can apply even if you have not yet taken the ACT or SAT. Review  the Senior Timeline you received at the Senior workshop to make sure you are on track.

Seniors, the H.O.P.E.  or Helping Other People Excel scholarship is available: This scholarship is awarded to students with a high level of academic achievement, exhibit high levels of determination and drive, possess strong leadership skills, and are actively involved in the community. Deadline is December 15. Please visit the career center, Rm. E224 or the school website senior tab for more information.


ATHLETICS:

  • G. Basketball defeated Manzano last night. They will play Eldorado on Friday night in the ring of fire.
  • Boys Basketball will play at West Mesa at 7
  • The Talons dance team competes at Metro Dance this Friday at Albuquerque High beginning at 7
  • Cheer competes at Metro Cheer this Saturday beginning at noon at Albuquerque High.
  • Attention Students And Staff – If You Are Attending The Spirit Metro Tournament This Friday And Saturday To Support Our Dance And Cheer Team, The Cost To Enter Is $5 For All.  All Metro Tournament Games Are $5 For All Sports.
