Cal EMA Acting Secretary Dayton Joins Local and Elected Officials for Site Inspection in Crescent City
*The following news release was issued by Cal EMA on Saturday, March 12, 2011.*Crescent City, CA– Today, Acting Secretary Mike Dayton joined local and elected officials in Del Norte County to inspect the areas impacted by yesterday's tsunami activity resulting from the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit east of Japan. Dayton was joined by Congressman Mike Thompson and Assemblyman Wes Chesbro.
The tour was conducted after a briefing held at the Del Norte County Administration Building Board Chambers Room, 931 H Street in Crescent City.
"We're just beginning to get a full sense of the impacts this tsunami has had on California coastal communities such as Crescent City," said Acting Secretary Mike Dayton. "Governor Brown's quick action to proclaim a State of Emergency will greatly assist these areas, helping to expedite the cleanup and restoration process."
Damages are currently being assessed. Total estimated costs of repair are yet to be determined.
The California Tsunami activity was a result of the 8.9 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Japan on March 11, 2011.
