The City of Los Angeles is mailing about 20,000 Tsunami Guides to coastal residents.

The Tsunami Guides contain a map showing at-risk neighborhoods. It also details what to do if authorities issue a tsunami warning.

Officials said depending on where the quake hits there might not be enough time for an official warning. So they suggest residents be vigilant and watch for signs of a tsunami, including water surging out to sea, water surging inland, or a roar form the ocean.

If any of those things occur, officials say move inland as quickly as possible at least a half mile.
