| An 8.8-magnitude earthquake has struck off the northeastern coast of Japan. Japanese television is showing major tsunami damage of cars, trucks, houses and buildings being swept away in the northern part of country. Japan's meteorological agency warned that a tsunami as high as 20 feet could strike the coast near Miyagi prefecture. Initial reports measured the quake at 7.9. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and the U.S. state of Hawaii. Get more details | Advertisement |
