Deb,
The things we build and even our very bodies do NOT add weight to the crust of the Earth because these things are not adding any weight to crust, merely reformulationg material that is already on or in it and moving it around. Our bodies are made of dirt, our buildings are made of dirt and everything in them is made of dirt and what is left over comes from the oceans. We and all our stuff are made of that which is already on or in the crust of the Earth and someday we all return unto the dirt and to the seas. Atoms that comprise our bodies now will someday comprise other people's bodies and some of the atoms that comprise our bodies now once comprised other people's bodies whom have preceded us on this Earth. We merely borrow the atoms of the things we are and that we build and use. We are very temporary travelers here awaiting what is next.

People everywhere in this world and this time actually believe science or heros will save humanity from anything especially itself! I have made the trek up the slippery (very dangerous) wall of Vernal Fall, and it was during a low water time. It was treacherous and beautiful, an experience I will not forget. But one that made me realize Nature has the upper hand and we are merely ants upon her palm! Sometime I wonder if all these quakes are not just the earth shaking us off or pushing us to another space.....yes, fantasy fairy tale thinking but when you are in the reality of nature it is difficult to think otherwise! I never understood why building lots of huge skyscrapers and homes did not weight down the earth's crust enough to be a factor in quakes. My college professor laughed when I asked about it. But now I read that the melting glaciers and loss of weight on the crust is a factor...hmmmmm. We impact earth much more than we think.
