I have made the trek up the slippery (very dangerous) wall of Vernal Fall, and it was during a low water time. It was treacherous and beautiful, an experience I will not forget. But one that made me realize Nature has the upper hand and we are merely ants upon her palm! Sometime I wonder if all these quakes are not just the earth shaking us off or pushing us to another space.....yes, fantasy fairy tale thinking but when you are in the reality of nature it is difficult to think otherwise! I never understood why building lots of huge skyscrapers and homes did not weight down the earth's crust enough to be a factor in quakes. My college professor laughed when I asked about it. But now I read that the melting glaciers and loss of weight on the crust is a factor...hmmmmm. We impact earth much more than we think.
