I'm still trying to figure out how anyone felt it. If we had a 2.4 here, it would be so negligible, as to be nonexistent.

KENOSHA - A minor earthquake rattled part of southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 2.4 magnitude earthquake struck just before 10:00 p.m. Monday night. The USGS says the epicenter was approximately 30 miles west southwest of Kenosha, in McHenry, Ill.
"I saw it on the news," said one person at Bristol Diner, near the Wisconsin/Illinois border.
"I said, 'Wow. We had an earthquake and I didn't even know it.' "
UWM seismologist Keith Sverdrup received more than 400 calls from people in Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois saying they felt the quake.
Sverdup explained that the quake was too small and too far away for the UWM seismograph to pick it up.
He explained that the 2.4 magnitude quake was normal for our region, but one element caught him off guard.
"What is surprising is its location," Sverdup told TODAY'S TMJ4's Melissa McCrady.
"It's not located, to the best of my knowledge, on any significant mapped faults in this region."
Several area police departments reported calls from people who felt the quake, but no one reported damage
