08/17/2013 | 1830 | CA-TNF American Fire: 12,115 acres, 40% contained. Estimated containment: 08/28/2013. Moderate to extreme fire behavior was observed around the fire. Extremely dry fuel bed and steep slopes are contributing to control difficulty. Short range spotting is influencing the rates of spread. Active fire behavior resulted in the breach of existing containment lines on the south east side of the fire. The Central Coast Team 7 In-Briefed California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 (Opliger) today at 1300 hours. Team 4 is shadowing and will take over the fire on August 19 at 0600 hours. CA-LNU Double Fire: 70 acres, 80% contained. Expecting containment 8/18 at 1800. CA-KNF Salmon River Complex: 13,002 acres, 80% contained. Estimated containment: 08/19/2013. Mop up, patrol, and hold hand lines. Structure defense will continue around the community of Sawyers Bar, including daily sprinkler system maintenance and testing. CA-SRF Butler: Fire activity increased slightly as the inversion lifted around 1400 and drainage winds aligned to clear smoke from most drainages in the area. Voluntary evacuation remains in effect for isolated residences near the community of Forks of Salmon. The Salmon River Road remains closed to public use in the fire area. Expansion of the structure defense corridor is being moved south as needed along the Hwy 93 corridor and areas in and around Knownothing Creek drainage. CA-BTU Swedes: 1,850 acres, 20% contained. Fire has limited access with steep terrain, narrow roads and immediate threat and evacuations in the Hurleton area. Fire is split into two heads running upslope and to the North and East. Evacuation orders in place for Oro Bangor Hwy from Swedes Flat Rd to Mission Crest and all of Hurleton Swedes Flat Rd from Swedes Flat Rd to Forbstown Rd. Evacuation warnings in place on Minors Ranch Rd from Oro Bangor Hwy to Hwy 162, Hwy 162 to Forbstown Rd, Forbstown Rd to Hurleton Swedes Flat Rd. CALFIRE Team 1 (Zombro) will assume command at 0600 8/18. CA-SRF Corral: 3,800acres, 0% contained. Unified Command with Garwood and Mendes. Fire was spotting approximately 1/8 mile ahead of large fires. Concern remains about smoke impacts and fire spread west towards the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation, as well as potential easterly spread to the Shasta-Trinity NF and the community of Denny. |
08/17/2013 | 1100 | CALFIRE IMT1 (Zombro) has been activated for the CA-BTU Swedes Fire. Inbrief will occur at 2000 tonight. Transfer of command to occur at 0700 08/18/2013. |
08/17/2013 | 0715 | CA-TNF American Fire: 11,950 acres, 45% contained. Estimated containment 8/28/2013. Moderate to active fire behavior over night with single tree torching. The fire continues to burn in steep and hazardous terrain, as well as timber fuels that have not burned in several decades. Consumption of heavy fuels continues to contribute to the heavy smoke in the surrounding area. The Placer Air Pollution Control Board is working with the Team on the effects of the smoke. The Forest, timber industry, local agencies, and private landowners continue to collaborate to implement strategy and tactics that will minimize impacts on high value timber resources, Western States Trail, watershed and local communities. CA-KNF Salmon River Complex: 13,002acres, 65% contained. Estimated containment 8/18/2013. Creeping and smoldering in heavy dead and down fuels was observed overnight. Planned actions for today include; Mop up, patrol, and hold handline to reduce the threat of spot fires. Deepen the burn out along Tanner Ridge to Jackass Gulch. Patrol and hold handline from the 51 road downhill towards Sawyers Bar Road. CA-SRF Butler Fire: 14,869acres, 24% contained. Estimated containment 9/15/2013. Command has been transitioned to Incident Commander Quesinberry - NIMO. Minimal fire activity was observed throughout the night. In lower drainages, higher humidity limited fire spread to smoldering and creeping and isolated jackpots burning in heavy fuels. Dry fuels continue to be receptive to spot fires during the burning period; spotting has been observed quarter to half mile ahead of the main fire. CA-SRF Corral Complex: 3,530 acres, 0% contained. Estimated containment 10/1/2013. The fire will be going into Unified Command as of 0600 August 17, with the Hoopa Valley Tribe. Snags, remote wilderness location, lack of resources and spotting 1/8 mile ahead of the fire continues to challenge firefighting resources. |
06/17/2013 | 0630 | CA-BTU Swedes Fire: 1,200 acres, 20% contained. Fire is located northwest of Bangor. Evacuastions in place along Oro-Bangor Hwy north of Swedes Flat Road. Immediate threat to 200 structures. |
