08/27/2013 | 1830 | CA-TNF American Fire: Opliger, CA IMT1, 25,520 acres, 92% contained. Expected containment: 08/29. The southern portion of the fire is cold, the western flank holds abundant heat in the ground that hand crews and engines are actively mopping up. The northern section has scattered smoldering pockets of heat. The western flank experienced surface fire in the timber litter and smoldering within the brush-type fuels. Active surface fire found along the southwestern flank in the timber fuels and creeping and smoldering in the brush-type fuels. CA-SRF Corral Complex: Joseph, CA IMT1, 11,772 acres, 5% contained. Expected containment 10/1. Creeping and backing fire was observed in the heavier ground fuels with occasional isolated tree torching. There was minimal fire spread. Fine fuels continue to dry out from moisture event and increased fire activity is expected in the near future. The fire is within 3 air miles of the community of Denny. CA-TGU Deer: Cone, CAL FIRE Team 2, 10,589 acres, 82% contained. Expected containment 8/29. The fire remained within current containment lines throughout the day. Personnel continue to improve all handlines. Mop up will continue to provide black line depth to reduce the threats of spots across containment lines. Hand crews will need rotary wing support to shuttle personnel to and from the fire. The fire suppression repair plan has been started. CA-SRF Butler Fire: Minton, NORCAL1, 21,217 acres, 45% contained. Expected containment: 09/15. High relative humidity kept the fire limited to smoldering in heavy interior fuels. Very steep rugged terrain with snags and rolling material in hard to access areas is making patrol and monitoring difficult. Narrow winding roads pose a hazard to resources accessing and egressing the fire. CA-KNF Salmon River Complex: Minton, NORCAL1, 14,720 acres, 95% contained. Expected containment 08/28. Fire exhibited smoldering and creeping in interior pockets. The Salmon Complex is now being managed under the Forks Complex. Suppression repair continues under the Suppression Repair Plan. A Forest issued area closure is in effect that incorporates the fire.
