| 03/22/2014 | 0830 | Soda CA-SQF-120 Wildland Fire is burning in the Golden Trout Wilderness in Sequoia National Forest, and did not grow significantly overnight. With continued drought conditions, and concern for lingering smoke in nearby communities, fire officials have decided to insert firefighters on the fireline and stop it from spreading any further. Over the weekend, firefighters will be flown into the wilderness on a helicopter to begin suppressing the Soda Fire. They will utilize the helicopter for water drops on the hottest parts of the fire. The priority is firefighter safety; they will be flown out at night. Efforts will be made to protect the wilderness quality of the area. Fire crews have been instructed on special tactics to reduce their impact on the environment while keeping safety as their number one priority |
