The civil defence bill for Canterbury councils for the region's earthquakes has topped $215 million, with the final payment made today.
The government has made its last reimbursement - $65,000 to ECan - taking its share of the bill to just under $2 million.
The payments - to Christchurch, Waimakariri and Selwyn councils, plus ECan - cover their costs for housing, clothing, feeding and transporting displaced Cantabrians, and essential infrastructure repair, following the area's big quakes in September 2010, and February, June and December 2011.
