Scientists of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) conducted fieldwork on the June 27th lava flow today in the area of the ground crack system. The lowermost active breakout today was located about 500 meters (0.3 miles) northeast of the abandoned geothermal well site, and about 1.9 km (1.2 miles) west of Kaohe Homesteads. The active breakouts were flowing over the existing June 27th lava flow, with some burning of forest along the flow margins. There were no signs of active breakouts downslope (north) of the crack system. No significant changes occurred at Puʻu ʻŌʻō today.

An overflight is scheduled for Friday.

Daily updates about Kilauea's ongoing eruptions, recent images and videos of summit and East Rift Zone volcanic activity, and data about recent earthquakes are posted on the HVO Web site at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov.

A daily update is posted in the morning, and a status report is posted later in the day as new information becomes available and if warranted. Updates and status reports are posted at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/activity/kilaueastatus.php.
