At approximately 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, a dry lightening strike caused a wildfire in the mountain range east of Tehachapi, and southwest of the Old West Ranch.
The fire has consumed 5 acres so far, is heavy fueled and slow in advancement, according to Kern County Fire Department. Two helicopters and two air tankers have been called in to assist.
Heavy rain has been reported in the Alpine area, including lightening strikes.
No word has yet been received on possible structures in danger.
Tehachapi News will post more information and footage as it is received.
I'm on the west side of tehachapi, and a t-storm just rolled through and now there's a large column of black smoke coming up from the south or south east side of Tehachapi (Old West Ranch area?) about 7-10 miles from me. Any info you guys get on this, please post.
