Notes:		On this date in 1996 a fire began in the mountains north of Upper Lake and burned their way mostly eastward through the Southern Mendocino National Forest. Ultimately this fire consumed 83,323 acres. On 8/17/96, a low pressure system moved through the area bringing winds that created a blow-up in which 36,000 acres burned in just 6 hours.
