August 28th, 2012 at 10:30am the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office issued a six hour notification for mandatory evacuation. Residents of Seiad Valley had one to two hours or less to evacuate following this third stage of notification. The notice includes closure of Seiad Creek Road, Seiad Oaks Road, and some portions of the west side of Highway 96. An evacuation center has been established at Siskiyou Golden Fair Grounds, 1172 Fairlane Road, Yreka Ca. The evacuation center has the capability to house large and small animals as well.
The fire has reached containment lines, some within a few hundred yards of structures along the west side of Seiad Creek Road and Highway 96 in Seiad Valley. The fire is expected to move across the Canyon Creek towards the West Fork Seiad Creek over the next 24 hours. Firefighters are stationed along Seiad Creek Road and Seiad Oak Road to protect homes and property 24 hours a day. Structure protection crews continue preparations along the Seiad Valley Road to provide structure protection as needed. Firefighters are using strategic firing operations only when necessary to strengthen containment lines.
On the west side the fire is expected to move across the ridge between Four Mile Butte and Tims Peak and north towards Mount Emily over the next 24 hours. Firefighters will continue to strengthen containment lines.
Temperatures are expected to be 85 and 90 degrees today. The winds along the ridge tops are will be out of the northeast at 6 to 8 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.
