Two grass fires force evacuations, threatens more than 100 Jones Valley homes; CHP closing road
Two grass fires are spurring firefighters to evacuate homes on Christian Way off Bear Mountain Road this afternoon, firefighters said.
They say it could grow to 100 plus acres and threatens more than 100 homes.
Firefighters are asking evacuees to head to Shasta College
Firefighters are reporting about a half-acre burning between the two fires at 14738 Christian Way. The fire has a moderate rate of spread, with a high potential for growth.
Firefighters say the most active side is the northern edge.
The southern fire is pushing up the slope of the drainage, firefighters said.
Power lines to homes in the area have also fallen down.
The fire, which was originally reported around 1:20 p.m., is being attacked from the air and ground.
California Highway Patrol officers are closing Christian Way at Bear Mountain Road as of 1:50 p.m. Firefighters also advised law enforcement to contact the American Red Cross to establish an evacuation center.
