Obama declares disaster in area hit by 7.2 earthquake

President Obama on Friday signed a federal disaster declaration for the Calexico area of California, which was hit hard by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake April 4.Los Angeles Times

The move makes areas with quake damage eligible for federal funding, including government agencies and nonprofit groups.
The temblor, which was centered just south of the Mexican border town of Mexicali, caused at least $91 million in damage in California. Imperial County was hardest hit including:
--Structural damage to numerous buildings including homes, schools and a hospital
--Major cracks to the All-American Canal, which provides water for local agriculture
--Damage to wastewater and water storage tanks
The quake killed two people in Mexicali and caused several structures to collapse.
