We're expecting rain through Wednesday, so more saturation, more water in
the flood channels/rivers (and thus more risk of system failure, in the form
of collapse of structure or overflow), more weight on fragile hillsides
(where people have built houses, despite all common sense), more runoff in
burn areas.
I expect the traffic problems will continue but not compound.
We stand (based on the Santa Fe Dam monitoring station) at 3.17 inches in
the last 24 hours, 1.37 in six hours, 0.10 in the last hour (down from a
peak of 0.42 last hour, and not tapering off). It's been a long time indeed
since we've had this much rain in such a short time. (In fact, we've had
recent seasons without this much rain in a year.)
Now: The wildcard here is that the storm is forecast to change from
Pineapple Express to a standard storm system, with cold air behind it. I
don't know what to expect from that change except for cold air and lowering
snow levels. Possible increases in wind.
Definitely an active week for weather watchers. Hopefully not so much for
disaster watchers.
