[californiadisasters] The Dry Month of December 2011

Weather Story (click for larger image)
With rain only expected over extreme northern California the next few days, December will end up very dry across the state unlike last year. This compares to last year around this time when, for the month of December, many areas had received upwards of over 8 inches above normal. As of December 29, 2011, downtown Los Angeles had received 1.01 inches for the month. This compares to 10.83 inches up to this date in 2010. Normal for the month up to this date is 2.13 inches. Since July 1st, which is the start of our water year, downtown Los Angeles is about a third of an inch below normal. Since this is typically the wettest part of the year for southern California, each day that passes without precipitation will only increase our seasonal deficit.
