Not to outdo the good folks at Ready.gov who have revamped their web page and awesome Greg Banner (whose recent e-mail y’all should have seen yesterday or thereabouts), I’d like to share these web links with you:
First, let me promote a few initiatives that FEMA and I (as well as many others in the NCR) have been involved with:
1. Two New FEMA Independent Study Courses:
If all goes well, FEMA will be unveiling two new EMI courses next year. They are:
a. Emergency Preparedness for Federal Employees in the National Capital Region
b. Emergency Preparedness for (All) Federal Employees
Both are primarily designed for Federal Employees, but really anyone will be able to take them. Release date: TBA. The project is in early development right now.
2. NCR Emergency Preparedness Brochure for Federal Employees:
The FEMA Office of National Capital Region Coordination (NCRC), in consultation with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and others, is creating a new brochure on emergency preparedness for Federal employees in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Both projects were initiated by FEMA NCRC’s, Alexander Yesnik (Alexander.Yesnik@fema.gov). Alex, I hope you don’t mind me singling you out as the wunderkind behind this project.
However, if you have any questions about either project, please contact Cheri Roe, Associate Director, at cheri.roe@dhs.gov. Kudos to NCRC! IMHO, they do not get enough credit for the good things they do.
Lastly, here are a few interesting web sites that many of you already know, but I thought I’d pass them on to everyone anyway.
1. Do1Thing: This web site has been around awhile and offers a MONTH-BY-MONTH, 12-step program to increase personal preparedness -

2. Ready.gov: This web site has also been around awhile and recently was redesigned and their mantra was updated, as a four-part recipe for personal preparedness … Be Informed … Make A Plan …Build A Kit … Get Involved. The secret to area and personal preparedness, in these hard financial times for our country, is that last step - getting involved in your community, i.e. neighbor helping neighbor.
