[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (August 5)



1997: A major heat wave started on 8.2 and ended on 8.7.
Temperatures hit 121° in Thermal, 118° in Borrego Springs, 113° in Brea, 110° in Riverside and Ontario, and 101° in Julian.
On this day the low temperature was 93° in Palm Springs.
Five deaths were attributed to this heat wave.

1978: The high temperature at Lovelock, NV, was 103°.

1977: It was 120° in Borrego Springs, the highest temperature on record for August.

1961: Fresno received 0.10" of rain. This resulted in Fresno's wettest August in 41 years.

1959: A heavy thunderstorm dropped 0.63" in Needles.
Flash floods damaged desert highways east of Needles.
A car and trailer were swept away without a trace, but occupants were saved.

1932: The high temperature at Susanville was 102°.
