08/16/2013 | 1900 | CA-KNF Salmon River Complex: 13,002 acres, 65% contained. Estimated containment 8/18/2013. Fire behavior observed today included active backing and isolated single tree tourching. Firefighters continued burning out from Tanners Peak Ridge to Sawyers Bar Road to secure that section of handline. Mop up and patrol continued along Sawyers Bar Road. Heavy smoke continues to limit aerial support and reconnasissance, along with affecting local communities. CA-SRF Butler Fire: 14,823 acres, 24% contained. Estimated containment 9/15/2013. Moderated fire activity was observed today. Continued isolated single and group torching on the fires edge was observed. The fire continued to move northwest to the ridge above Butler Creek and control efforts are progressing with firing operations. Voluntary evacuations remain in effect. CA-TNF American Fire: 9,726 acres, 37% contained. Estimated containment 8/28/2013. Moderate to extreme fire behavior occurred over the fire area today. A sustained crown fire was observed along the Macedon Ridge. Spot fires have become establised in the Whisky Hill area in the Westville Fire scar (2008). Fire progressed across Foresthill Road, a critical holding point. Place Air Pollution Control Board is working with the Team on the effects of the smoke. Further investigation found two additional outbuildings lost at the historic Pacific Slab Mine. California IMT1 Team 4 (Opliger) has been activated for the fire and will inbrief at 1000 hours tomorrow. CA-SRF Corral Complex: 3,370 acres, 0% contained. Estimated containment 10/1/2013. Fire continues to move toward the east with uphill runs. Spotting 1/8 mile ahead of the fire was observed. Indirect dozer line and handline began today on the west and southern portions of the fire.

08/16/2013 | 1600 | National Weather Service Sacramento has issued a Fire Weather Watch in effect from Monday morning through Wednesday evening for thunderstorms in the mountains and foothills of interior Northern California. Some storms may also extend into the valley early next week. Affected Fire Weather Zones include: 213, 214, 220, 221, 263, 264, 266, 267, 268, 269 and 279. |
08/16/2013 | 0700 | CA-TNF American Fire: 7,367 acres, 31% contained. The fire made a significant 3 mile run in Secret Canyon towards Foresthill Road. A Forest Closure has been implemented and includes Foresthill Divide Road and Deadwood Ridge Road. Fire continues to burn in the southeast end of Deadwood Ridge. Consumption of heavy fuels continues to contribute to heavy smoke in the surrounding area. The Forest, timber industry, local agencies and private landowners continue to collaborate to implement strategy and tactics that will minimize impacts on resources within the fire area. CA-KNF Salmon River Complex: 13,002 acres, 60% contained. Burnout continues to secure the fire's edge towards the southwest and down Tanner Ridge. Mop up and patrol continues on handline from 51 Road downhill to Sawyers Bar Road. Structure defense continues around the community of Sawyers Bar. Forest closure remains in effect, along with an evacuation advisory along the north side of Sawyers Bar Road. CA-SRF Butler Fire: 14,723 acres, 24% contained. The fire made runs northwest towards the ridge top above Butler Creek. Firing operations continued to contain the fire at the ridge. Point protection of structures in the fire area is continuing. Expansion of the structure defense corridor has been moved south as needed along the Salmon River Road. NORCAL Team 1 (Minton) assumed command of the fire at 0600 hours. CA-SRF Corral Complex: 2,900 acres, 0% contained. Snags, remote wilderness location and lack of resources continue to impact suppression efforts. Fire is burning within the 2009 Backbone Fire and continues moving east and north, with backing fire to the south and west.
