Re: [Geology2] The Sliding Rocks of Racetrack Playa



Sorry for the delay, I've been traveling, today was Zion NP again and Pink Coral Sand Dune SP in Utah.

It's flat to the eye but if it weren't, all the rocks would go in the same direction at the same time.  They;re not.  I'm sure that because of the sun angle variations over the course of the year, shading and varied water content, the playa isn't perfectly level at any given time, but it's close.

A laser system could make accurate measurements, unless light bends there too.  ;o)

I understand from prior reading that the while the lake bed appears level and flat it is actually inclined slightly and not truly flat. FWIW
