[Volcano_Vista_HS] VVHS Announcements--Tuesday, March 11, 2014



Thanks to all hard-working students and teachers who participated in World Language Week events last week. Here are a few announcements about winners:

Volcano Vista once again won first place at the UNM World Expo attendance competition; more than 266 Hawks attended!  AND….drum roll, please…..Volcano Vista beat St. Pius at the UNM World Expo Trivia contest last Saturday to take the championship. Go HAWKS!

In the sixth Volcano Vista World Language Week Poetry Competition:  At level I, winning 2nd place was Mitchell, for his German poem "Pretzel". First prize goes to D. Vaughn, for a Spanish poem entitled "The Most High".  The level 2 second place winner goes to Chris Gutierrez for his Spanish poem "Leaves" and 1st prize goes to S. Mapel, with a German poem titled "Track"  And the advanced level 2nd place winner was Pope, with a French poem titled "Uncertainty" and first prize goes to Adrianna Herrera, with her Spanish poem "Queen of the Poor. 

Congratulations to these fine, multilingual poets! Go check out the winning poems; they are posted near the Nurse's office.

Congratulations to the VVHS Jazz band for great performance at the UNM Jazz Festival.  The performance received a 2+, I-, I- for an overall superior (1) rating.

Congratulations to this week's SOAR drawing winners.  The following students have been recognized by our staff for exhibiting Volcano Vista core values - Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect.  All winners this week receive lunch in the Lava Pit.

Congratulations to the over 400 students that received a 3.5 GPA or higher for 4th 6 week grading period.  Administrators will be coming around this week to recognize you in front of your 5th period classes.  Great job hawks and we encourage everyone to strive for the best grades possible.

 

Attention Operation Smile!  Don't forget that we are in charge of snack bar at lunch this week!  Please report 5 minutes early if possible.  Thanks!

 

CAMPUS CLEANUP is this weekend. Everyone is welcome to come and help clean up the inside and the outside of campus. Please meet in the gym lobby at 8:00am. We will be finished by 11am.

Time for Open Mic Night again! This Friday, March 14, come and watch VVHS talent perform in our BlackBox Theatre. General Admission is  $7, but with your student ID it is only $5.  Sign up sheets will be in Ms. Montoya's room (H219). The cost to perform is $1.  See you on Friday!

PROM FASHION SHOW: Do you want to feel like a prince or a princess? Then be a part of the Prom Fashion Show!  You must be a junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Please pick up a grade sheet at Mrs. Orta's room in F104.  Grade sheets are due Wednesday March 12th at lunch to room F104.

COUNSELING:

  • This is a reminder to Advanced Placement students who plan on taking exams:  Payment is due next week – March 12-14 depending on your last name. Please refer to your Registration Form for more information. 

ATHLETICS:

  • All wrestlers need to meet in 9th grade office at lunch for Hawk Cleanup for the remainder of the week.

  • G. Basketball:  Plays today in the NMAA State Quarterfinals vs. Hobbs at 9:45 AM at Santa Ana Star Center

  • B. Basketball:  Plays on Wednesday in the NMAA State Quarterfinals vs. Hobbs at 1:15 PM at the UNM Pit

  • Cheer ­ -  4th Place at UNM Spirit Invite

  • Baseball ­- Split with Piedra Vista - Plays at the Carlsbad Baseball Tournament Thursday-Saturday

  • Softball ­ - Plays La Cueva at home today, Valley at home on Thursday and Plays at Atrisco Heritage on Saturday.

  • B. Tennis - Plays Highland at home on Friday and at La Cueva on Saturday.

  • G. Tennis ­- Plays at Highland on Friday and at home vs. La Cueva on Saturday.

  • Girls and Boys Track ­open up the season this Saturday at Cleveland High School

  • Golf - opens up the spring season on Thursday at Los Altos
