[californiadisasters] Kit's "King Fire" Update For September 15, 2014

"King Fire" continues to make strong runs up the South Fork of the American River.  Fire on the North side of the river is quickly approaching about 25 homes in the Blair Mill area.  Today (9-15) a group of firefighters had to deploy their fire shields as they could not escape the quick movement of the fire in time, they were all ok and were aided by helicopter drops that helped them get to an area where they were extracted by helicopters.                                           The South flank of the fire has been very active as well along the American River, crews are fearful that the fire will jump the Eldorado Irrigation Ditch near highway 50.  Fire is threatening Whites Meadows, Spring Valley,Camino Pines and Pollock Pines.  Fire was 8,600 acres at time of report and only 5% contained. Communities and cities North of the fire continue to be effected by heavy outflow smoke.  Tanker activity has been effected by smoke as well at times and also diversions to new starts. Tankers #40, #101,#131,#911 have been reported on the fire. Reload McClellan. S2's reloading Grass Valley."
