[californiadisasters] Kit's "King Fire" Update For September 16, 2014

"Fire has now burned 12,780 acres and remains only 5% contained.  Today (9-16) 736 additional residents have been evacuated from Swansboro bringing the number of evacuated to 2,100.                                                                               The fire has now bumped the North side of highway 50 and has forced the closure of the highway between Sly Park and Fresh Pond, crews have done a great job in keeping the fire North of the highway and as of 21:00 tonight the fire had not spotted across the highway. 1,600 homes remain threatened, strong winds and very steep terrain continue to hamper containment efforts. Drought effected fuels continue to aid the fire in growth and strong runs at times during the day.  Heavy smoke continues to effect South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Reno, Portola, Loyalton and many other communities North, Northeast of the fire.  Tankers continue to load out of McClellan and Chico for this fire.  Tankers #40,#131,#160,#911 were confirmed on the fire today (Thanks McBill !!. )"
