The leading edge of the June 27th lava flow has not advanced since October 30. Upslope of the flow tip, however, multiple lava breakouts remain active. The breakout closest to the stalled leading edge is north of the PÄhoa cemetery, about 540 meters (590 yards) upslope of PÄhoa Village Road.
According to the Hawaii County Civil Defense overflight this morning and HVO ground observations later in the day, additional small breakouts are active near the PÄhoa cemetery and just south of the Transfer Station. A new breakout along the narrow section of flow about 550 m (600 yards) upslope of ApaÊ»a St. / Cemetery Road extended about 160 m (175 yards) downslope over the past day burning vegetation along its margin. The lobe of lava extending north from the Kaohe Homesteads area also remains active.
A minor summit inflation signal was recorded over the past 24 hours. The tiltmeter at Puʻu ʻŌʻŠwas repaired yesterday and data appear to be stabilizing.
Daily updates about KÄ«lauea's ongoing eruptions, recent images and videos of summit and East Rift Zone volcanic activity, and data about recent earthquakes are posted on the HVO Web site at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov.
HVO scientists will monitor changes at the June 27th flow front by foot on Sunday. A daily update will be posted in the morning, and status reports will be issued as new information becomes available. Updates are posted at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/activity/kilaueastatus.php.
