STATE WINNERS:
Congratulations to our Mock Trial teams for winning first and second in their state competition over the weekend.
The Volcano Vista Mock Trial Team continued its tradition of dominance at last weekend's state tournament. Jacob Pankrats of the Black squad received one of only four outstanding witness awards. Alina Angiano, also of the Black squad, along with Matt Andreoni and Victoria Contreras of the Platinum squad, took three out of the four slots for outstanding attorney. Alina put the icing on the cake of individual acclamation when she also received the Zamzok Award for the tournament's most outstanding attorney--along with a nice check!
The individual awards turned out to be simply a warmup, though. Our Black Squad, consisting of team captain Michelle Dapson, Alina Angiano, Jacob Pankrats, Jasmine Swell, Lorena Garcia, Haley Montieth, took second place.
And our Platinum squad, with captain Sonja "Bird Person" Fullilove, Lauren "Actually, if I wanted to make money, I'd be testifying for your side!" McFather, Savannah "And we multiplied!" Flores, Carianne "Impressive crane, if you don't mind me saying so!" Lee, Matthew "None Dare Call It Negligence!" Andreoni, Victoria "Well, then, we'll just make her an expert!" Contreras, and Olivia "If that's what you call an objection, you may as well go home!" Rizzardi plowed through Animas, Pojoaque and Sandia Prep high schools en route to winning the state championship--our third in the last four years!
The Platinum squad, along with Jacob Pankrats as a witness alternate, will be travelling to Raleigh, North Carolina to represent both Volcano Vista and New Mexico in the national high school mock trial championship tournament. Great job, and good luck, to all!
Congratulations to our Lit mag, newspaper and yearbook for bringing home the state trophy for publications.
