2007: A major heat wave struck the mountains and deserts of Southern California from this day to 7.6.
A strong persistent marine layer precluded the heat wave from impacting the coasts and valleys.
During this time the temperature reached 119° F in
Ocotillo Wells, 116° F in Palm Springs and Indio, 115° F in Anza Borrego, 107° F in Julian, 103° F at Lake Cuyamaca, 100° F at Idyllwild, 97° F at Palomar Mountain, 94° F at Big Bear Lake (tied all time high) and Mt. Laguna.
Some heat illnesses occurred, but were poorly documented.
2004: Livermore had a low temperature of 48° F.
2001: Reno, NV, had a high temperature of 102° F.
1985: The heat wave across Southern California that started on 6.30 and ended on 7.3 continued on this day bringing summer heat all the way to the coast. Numerous high temperature records were broken including Santa Barbara which hit 109° F establishing an all-time high for the month of July. The afternoon high in San Diego was 94° F, the 5th highest July temperature since 1874 (when records began). Santa Ana topped out at 100° F, hot but a welcome decline from the previous day's 110° F. Other impressive area temperatures on this day included 113° F at El Capitan Dam, 106° F at Miramar, and 105° F in El Cajon.
1979: It was 54° F in Palm Springs, the lowest temperature on record for July.
This also occurred on 7.3.1935.
1919: Santa Maria established a record low for July of 41° F.
1901: The temperature in Fresno dropped to 50° F, setting an all-time record low minimum for the month of July.
