Magnitude 4.2 earthquake shakes desert region around Twentynine Palms
A 4.2-magnitude earthquake, centered about 10 miles south of Twentynine Palms, shook the California desert Monday morning, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The 9:26 a.m. temblor was widely felt throughout the Coachella Valley and south-central San Bernardino County.
Twentynine Palms is about 180 miles south of Ridgecrest, where magnitude 6.4 and 7.1 earthquakes struck back-to-back on July 4 and 5.
A magnitude 2.6 earthquake was recorded in the Ridgecrest area, about 16 miles south of the community of Trona, at 9:31 a.m.
