Earthquakes rattle the Bay Area; shaking hits along fault north of Livermore
"Today's magnitude 4.3 #earthquake that rattled the #BayArea, striking 11 miles northeast of #Livermore, occurred on a fault capable of a magnitude 7 quake. It's known as the Greenville fault, and caused magnitude 5.8 and 5.4 quakes in 1980, causing damage. The Greenville fault is easternmost of the Bay Area's 7 significant quake fault zones, all roughly parallel to each other. Besides the better known San Andreas & Hayward, the region's most important include the Calaveras, Concord-Green Valley, Rodgers Creek and San Gregorio. The 1980 quakes on this fault were strong enough to cause damage at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and shift mobile homes off foundations. Today's quake did not do any damage."
