2015: Windy and dry conditions fanned the North Fire near the Cajon Pass. The fire spread rapidly on this day consuming 3,500 acres and forcing a closure of Interstate 15.
The fire also destroyed or damaged 23 structures and 74 vehicles. Thunderstorms were the story farther south in Borrego Springs, where a downburst produced 60 mph winds and a haboob (dust storm)that sent visibility plummeting.

2005: Needles, CA reached a high temperature of 125° F, recording its hottest temperature ever.
Kingman, AZ reached 113° F, which set an all-time record high temperature for this city.

2005: Temperatures in the lower desert cities of Southern California reached or exceeded 120° F.
These included 121° at Palm Springs, Thermal, and Mecca, and at 120° at Borrego Desert Park.

1998: The high temperature at Reno, NV, was 104° F.

1990: Susanville recorded 1.31" of precipitation.

1988: San Francisco had a high temperature of 103° F.

1987: A cold-core, upper-level storm system produced snow showers across the higher elevations of Yosemite National Park with amounts up to 4" in some areas.

1987: A rare and unseasonable cold-season storm hit San Diego County.
0.03" of rain fell at San Diego (normal July monthly rainfall is 0.01").
In Vista 0.21" fell, 0.10" in Fallbrook, 0.08" at Montgomery Field, 0.07" in Coronado, and 0.06" in Del Mar.

1970:
The low temperature was 70° F in Idyllwild, the highest low temperature on record.

1960: Glenbrook, NV, ( east shore Lake Tahoe) reported its all-time record high temperature of 96° F.

1960:
It was 101° F at Idyllwild, the highest temperature on record.
This also occurred on 7.9.2002.

1954: A northward moving hurricane made landfall in central Baja California with the remnants moving into Arizona.
Rainfall of up to 2" occurred in the mountains and deserts starting on this day and ending on 7.19.
This occurred during the El NiƱo of 1953-54.
