08/12/2012 | 1910 | CA-PNF Chips Fire. 42,136 acres, 20% contained. Active low intensity fire behavior with occasional single tree torching. Fire behavior moderated due to heavy smoke cover; increasing activity expected when the smoke lifts. Sheriff's Mandatory Evacuation for Rush Creek has been downgraded to a Voluntary Evacuation. Cal Trans was able to clear the roll out debris along the Caribou Rd. Resources continue to improve and prep the containment line from the 1510 road east to the Butt Lake Reservoir for planned firing operation. Crews completed the hand line around the slop over in Red Hill and continue to mop up and patrol. Resources continue to provide structure protection and preparation in the communities of Seneca and the HWY 89 corridor. Initial attack responsibilities remain in effect in the delegated areas of the Chips Fire. Resources completed the indirect line from the 1510 road east, down to the Butt Lake Reservoir and will continue with prep work for burning operation this evening. |
08/15/2012 | 1905 | CA-NOD Rush Fire. 101,000 acres, 25% contained. Fire potential remains extreme due to ERC at record highs. Some residences remain evacuated on the north end of the fire. Dozers were able to make good progress on all but the northern and southern end of the fire. Significant fire growth was experienced to the north, south and west. |
08/15/2012 | 1905 | CA-LNU Wye Fire. 7,934 acres, 75% contained. Isolated fire activity and torching continues within the control lines in Branch III. Continued progress in Branch III. Highway 20 now opened to two way restricted speed traffic. |
08/15/2012 | 1900 | CA-LNP Reading Fire. 25,242 acres, 25% contained. Aggressive backing was observed on all flanks today, including group tree torching and short-range spotting on the northeast flank of the fire. Fire continues to move slowly on the eastern perimeter by spotting into jackpots of fuel. Crews continued firing operations to secure the western perimeter, direct line construction on the southeast perimeter, and patrol and mop up activities on the southwestern perimeter northwest of Dersch Meadows. Additional roads and trails were added to the Forest Service emergency closure order. Nightime burn operations are planned for tonight. |
08/15/2012 | 1855 | CA-KNF Fort Complex. 3,657 acres, 23% contained. Branch I - Goff Fire: The fire continues to move to the north. Short duration head fire runs occurred today. Branch II - Hello Fire: The fire continues to back towards indirect lines along the eastern flank. Direct line construction and improvement continues along all other flanks. Branch II - Lick Fire: Mop up continues. Some resources shifted to the Hello Fire for today's shift. |
08/15/2012 | 1845 | CA-BTU Mill Fire (formerly the Lassen Fire). 1,400 acres, 15% contained. Located in the Mill Creek drainage, which has a history of large fires. The fire made periodic runs upslope with torching and short-range spotting. CAL FIRE IMT 5 assumed command at 1800 tonight. |
08/15/2012 | 0905 | CA-PNF Chips Fire. 42,215 acres, 20% contained. Active fire was observed at the south end of Butt Lake Reservoir near the spill way and along the Caribou road in Div W. Activity was limited to creeping fire and continued burning in heavy fuels in other Divisions. The Caribou Road was closed last night due to heavy debris roll-out. Cal Trans will be clearing the road today. The increase in acreage was from Line Scan IR and will be verified today with an IR/mapping mission that is scheduled for this morning. |

The fire is currently burning in the Five Springs WSA, the Skedaddle WSA, Twin Peaks WSA (Lassen County) and a small portion of Nevada. Dozers were able to make good progress on all but the northern end of the fire. No severe winds were experienced on the fire last operational period. Fire potential remains high due to ERC at record highs. 25 chains per hour, flame lengths of 10 feet. |

08/15/2012 | 0900 | CA-LNP Reading Fire. 23,958 acres, 23% contained. Crews burned out and successfully held approximately 3 miles of line on the western perimeter last night. Patrol and mop up of the rest of the fire continued. The moderate fire behavior observed last night was associated with the firing operations on the western perimeter; the remainder of the fire experienced minimal growth. |
08/15/2012 | 0855 | CA-KNF Fort Complex. 3,450 acres, 20% contained. During the afternoon and evening the Goff Fire came into alignment and made a significant 600 acre run to the north. The fire exhibited extreme fire behavior during this run. |
