Fire activity increased significantly in the north-west portion of the fire moving into the Soda creek drainage this afternoon and continues to make active runs. Crews continue to make progress with burning out operations and holding along the northern head of the fire above Grizzly creek from Div F east to Div Y. The active slop-over in Div Z continues to spread into the Mosquito creek; however resources have made significant progress with indirect line construction around the head of the slop-over. Crews continued to mop-up, hold and patrol existing fire line along the fire perimeter. The Contingency group continued to scout and construct containment line. CalTrans continues to clear debris from roll-out onto the highway. |

08/09/2012 | 1845 | CA-LNP Reading Fire. 6,030 acres, 5% contained. Wind and slope driven fire behavior with numerous group tree torching and crown fire runs burning through heavy timber and brush fuels. Today, the fire burned up the east slope of Raker Peak causing long range spotting towards the north up to 1.0 mile. Summit Lake Campground was closed today due to approaching fire. The main park highway continues to be closed for six miles from Chaos Crags to Summit Lake. Several USFS roads and trails south of Highway 44 and east of Highway 89 in the vicinity of Old Station have been closed. Lost Creek and Crags campgrounds remain closed. Portions of the Pacific Crest, Paradise Meadows, and Terrace Lakes trails remain closed. |

Goff Fire - 40 acres, 0% contained; Hello Fire - 220 acres, 0% contained; Lick Fire - 60 acres, 0% contained; Fruit Fire - 20 acres, 0% contained. |
08/09/2012 | 1755 | CA-NOD Lost. 59,200 acres, 30% contained. General sustained winds on the fire today increased ROS of 30-35 chains/hr with flame lengths of 12-14 feet. Torching mahogany had flame lengths exceeding 40 feet. The High Rock Canyon recreation area is being evacuated as well as back country areas. Road closures along the recreation area are in effect. Threats to the power grid have been mitigated temporarily. Small modules in conjunction with aviation assets have had some success in slowing/stopping forward spread within the wilderness as other long term options are explored. |

08/09/2012 | 0900 | CA-KNF Fort Complex. No reported change this morning due to lack of overnight staffing. 115 total acres, 0% contained. Fires within the complex include: Goff Fire - 20 acres, 0% contained; Hello Fire - 60 acres, 0% contained; Lick Fire - 30 acres, 0% contained; Fruit Fire - 5 acres, 0% contained. Extreme topography is making access difficult; fires are burning in the 1987 Fort Cooper Fire. The Goff Fire will continue to be monitored until SoCal Team 1 (Walker) takes over Friday; the OR-RSF fires will continue to go direct. |
08/09/2012 | 0900 | CA-NOD Lost Fire. 58,733 acres, 30% contained. The fire has entered the High Rock Canyon Wilderness and Nations Conservation Area (NCA). Indirect or point protection operations are being analyzed. Historic ERC's along with bumper grass crops do not allow for direct attack with out air and dozer support. Pushed by strong winds forecasted today, the fire will continue to burn ENE through the wilderness area with anticipated ROS of 30-35 chains/hr with flame lengths of 12-14 feet. Torching mahogany will have flame lengths exceeding 40 feet. Worst-case fire behavior exhibited during anticipated wind gusts include a ROS of 75-80 chains/hour and lame lengths will exceed 20 feet. Probability of ignition will reach 90-100% during afternoon. Spotting distance could be as far 1/2 mile. |

Approximately one mile of firing was completed until until the conditions became unfavorable. Crews continued to mopup, hold and patrol existing fireline. Cal Trans continues to clear debris from roll-out onto the highway. A 7 mile section of Hwy 70 from Rock Creek to the community of Belden has a one lane closure/control due to rollout of debris onto the highway. |
