At the risk of going against the flow I'm gonna throw in my two cents here.
As others have wisely said, making the move to California is difficult. But not impossible. People do it everyday. People also fail to do it every day. Then they have to pack up and go back to where they came from. Poorer, chastened and hopefully, much wiser.
The thing is that it's your dream. If you don't do it you'll forever regret not giving it a try. But before you do...for God's sake have a plan, a backup plan, and a "Get The Hell Out Of Dodge" plan.
The cost of living here varies from community to community. The availabity of employment opportunities varies from community to community. Research California, find the place that suits your lifestyle and be prepared for what you may find there.
Build up resources. Wherever you end up you're going to be facing months of having to make it without income. So come here with enough money to make it through that time, and leave a little extra just in case you have to bail and go back to Florida.
Bottom line, it sounds as if you're determined to come here. Welcome. But do it in a rational way with realistic expectations. If you think you'll come here and just muddle through, that you'll make it somehow but don't know how then the experience is going to be a painful and disappointing one. Your dream will be shattered.
As I said, moving here will be difficult under the best of circumstances. But if you plan it out, if you're prepared to tough it out, if you're ready to stick it out...you may just make it.
