The Potato Fire (NV-HTF-701) Fire is now 525 acres with 20% percent contained. This fire is BLM jurisdiction with the Unified ordering point being the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. A road closure being put in place to southbound access to Geiger Grade Rd. intersection to Bodie Mountain. Ground resources continue to build and improve hand line construction while patrolling the fire. Priority is to strengthen the eastern flank of the fire perimeter. There is the potential for further unstable weather to pass through area today.

In the last 24 hours approximately 225 lightning strikes were detected over the GACC (OSC/CSR). Most of the activity was centered over the Central Sierra's, Northern Owens Valley.  Very little precipitation (0.10 -.25) was associated with it.  The Potato Fire is located 5 Miles east of Bridgeport, CA. Start time 7/24/2010 16:00 hours. Fire size: estimated at 500 acres. Fire is burning in Sagebrush and Grass in a remote area with additional aviation and ground resources having been committed from California and Nevada.  A type 3 IMT from the Inyo National Forest will be assigned. No structures are reported threatened. Ground Resources are actively engaged in hand line construction and patrolling the fire throughout the night.  Bodie State Park is located to the SE of the fire. Cultural Resources from historical mining operations are in the general area. There are active mines in the general area.
