Re: [californiadisasters] plane down

I have to say as well that tailboard "back in the day" was the best ever. We used to have arguments as to got to ride board and who drove.

The good ole days!!

In Philadelphia they use to have Companies STAND BY which was to mean pull over and stop, shut down the lights and hold in a safe parking place. 99 times out of a 100 the next things was fire under control holding 1 and 1 (Engine and ladder) or something like that.

The ULTIMATE screw up was for a Battalion Chief was to utter the phrase "Have the Companies Resume Emergency Speed" I am told that meant a visit with the Shift Deputy Chief.

Of course you're correct.  I'll vent a little whine so others in the group can get used to some of the newer terms.

The 'new' designation (past 6-7 years) of contained is, 'it's OUT' as opposed to the 'old school' meaning simply "we got it surrounded or stopped forward progress'.  I've even used the phrase "Shaky containment" which meant exactly that "We got it, but I ain't so sure how well (don't cancel units just yet)".  'Under control' meant exactly what is says (It ain't goin' nowhere).

Sometimes newer isn't better.  Mean what you say and say what you mean, contained used in the current fashion is vague.  I don't like it, but that's life.  I'm not playing anymore but I still pay attention.

It's on an island. By default it's contained. (levity).
