Re: [californiadisasters] Re: New member

What Rick has said here about learning is my definition of "education". If
you want career training, the "career colleges" are the way to go. They are
more up-to-date in their fields and have contacts to get you a job after you
graduate. However, they don't offer a true education.

True education helps you to be, as the current term calls it, a "lifetime
learner". Not a bad thing at all. Learning to think, learning to appreciate
(understand) the world around you, learning the learning skills to adapt to
a changing environment.

One can get a true education by many informal means (tramp around Europe,
read lots of books, etc.), but the "powers that be" (those with paychecks to
offer) usually want to see a diploma.
