CWZWildfire has Passed
It is with great sadness that I sit here tonight and inform you that Mike Lanning, CWZWildfire, has passed.
Mike, a Senior Member, has been the backbone of posting in the SW Forum since 2007 and even more so since the passing of NMAirBear last year. His information was always prompt and accurate as was shown in the 2009 IA Thread Post Poll where you, his peers, voted him 2nd, only behind the late NMAirBear.
Mike was a paid on call firefighter for a small fire district in the
Arrangements have been made and are to take place Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at Melchor Mortuary in
The southwest area now has a void. Many may try but none will be able to fill the legacy that Mike Lanning, CWZWildfire left on this site in the Southwest Area Forums.
God rest your soul and rest in peace,

Now you know what we know. Not that knowing more will change things, but if you read through the link you’ll see that he was important on many lists and how much he’ll be missed. As we learn more (in particular the fund for his children) it will be passed along to you.

Achtung Volk!
There is a beautiful thread about Mike and his passing on the Hotlist, the place where he shined online the most and touched the most people.
Read it here: http://wildlandfire
Be aware, there are two pages to this thread to click on the "2" when you are done reading the first page.
Also, if nothing else, read TFDFF's opening comment announcing Mike's passing.

Achtung Volk!
It is with great sadness and emptiness of heart that I announce the sudden and untimely death of moderator Mike Lanning.
He was found dead by a neighbor in his Phoenix-area apartment a day or two ago and appears to have died over the holiday weekend.
Some of you here might be familiar with him by his name or by his handle "CWZWILDFIRE" which often appeared with frequent and informative postings on various fire and scanner related groups from the Hotlist on Wildlandfire.
Mike will be sorely missed, indeed he already is missed. His last posting anywhere was on July 2nd and given his prolific posting pattern, that four day span of no posts by him is a disquieting silence on groups like Southwest Scanner.
Most importantly, Mike was a wonderful human being with a heart of gold and a sweetness of spirit. Speaking for myself for whom Mike was a friend, I feel kicked in the stomach by this news and at times when I think about it I feel like crying and I'm no sissy la-la.
