Lol, If I were out there under the stars and moose started moving around I would be in my car quicker than you could say rumpestiltskin. Those are mammals with attitude and I seriously do not ever want to mess with them. I coudl settle for a nice lodge with a balcony though..Allison

However, we're speaking in the millimeter to centimeter range, regarding the amount of movement. If the caldera ever rises, does not deflate, but continues to rise, then we need to be more watchful. Hello Kathy, The Yellowstone caldera was discovered through the work of Bob Christiansen in the 1960's and 70's; shortly thereafter, satellite images showed the true extent of the caldera. . Regarding earthquake swarms, they are fairly common for the area. The last swarm was in January of this year with over 1200 small quakes recorded; however, according to geologists, the swarm was due to fault slippage and not magma movement. So, yes, swarms are normal for Yellowstone and no, there is no conspiracy to keep the truth from the public. When magma moves, harmonic tremors occur, which leaves its own "signature" on seismographs. I recommend reading more books on science and watching less Hollywood disaster movies. The situation you describe regarding not informing the public of imminent disaster is prevalent in the movie, "2012," which uses outdated theories and expounds upon them in order to create a world of chaos.
