Thanks Bre.  I wasn't sure it made sense, I was pretty fried from too many hours on the road in a couple days time.  It took longer to recover than usual so I guess I'm not 19 any more.  :-{

BLEVE is big time ugly.

It's like when you see the bomb tech running.  Don't ask why, just try to catch up.  When a firefighter says it's time for them to leave, you want to be at least a county away.  They'll set up unattended lines and back out, hoping for the best, but the trucks will be pointed away from the threat or moved back.

It could be propane tanks at a building (exposed to too much heat), it could be a railcar full of "Sho-nuff-kill-yall" poisons (like the train cars carrying rocket fuel to Vandenberg) or a storage facility.

When it goes, you want to be FAR away.  And this is from someone that likes to blow things up and make loud booms (which partially explains the hearing loss).  A BLEVE is over the top; uncontrolled mayhem and unpredictable.  [But so VERY kewl to watch in slo mo later.]

But that's chemistry and psychology, not geology.

I think you did a good job yourself.  I was wondering what the heck BLEVE was.
