The Army had three representatives come speak to us at our last meeting about some of the services they offer to help students. I must admit, hearing their presentation made me think differently about students choosing to take a military path as there are many opportunities. There are some services the Army offers with absolutely NO OBLIGATION to ever be contacted for miltary service.
First was the March 2 Success web site where students can get FREE SAT and ACT test help. Things on the web site were built by those who work for the SAT and ACT. There is NO OBLIGATION to commit to any contact from the military if you sign up to use this site. Any information your child gives to sign up will not be shared with military recruiters IF YOU UNCHECK A BOX saying you don't want contact at this initial sign up. The site can be found at: https://www.march2success.com/index.cfm
There was also discussion about how the Army offers lots of educational opportunites for those choosing the path of military service. Did you know that the army, and possibly all branches of the military, participate in a program called ConAP (Concurrent Admissions Program). When an applicant enlists in the Army or Army Reserve, recruiters encourage the individual to selecty a ConAP college and identify a date they intend to enroll during or after their enlistment. Colleges acknowledge the individuals' intent and provide guidelines about applying for admission not more than one year before the expected entry date, beginning the college academic experience, using distance learning, and staying in touch by eamil and the college web site. There is a HUGE list of Service Member Opportunity Colleges (SOC) where serving in the army automatically will get them accepted to the college of their choice (100s of colleges are on that list...a lot of the major colleges too!).
Per the request of the parents at December's Parent Advisory meeting, I am forwarding the following information about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB) that I received from Army Sergeant Gaona.
I would like to thank you for allowing us to be a part of your meeting today. I hope that the information we put out was to your teams value. The following is the date scheduled for the ASVAB. The Air Force is in charge of administering the test, however I will be present to help out. As you can see only 40 students are signed up for testing, I hope that
we can get a few more signed up.
