Right now in Houston, I am watching flood waters receding...since this city is cross crossed with bayous when there is a heavy rain, the streets flood. These minor floods can damage cars but rarely cause a loss of life. But watching these videos reminded me of footage back during a tropical storm in 2001 or 2002 where Houston's underground tunnels beneath the downtown area flooded as well as some underground parking structures and several people were trapped and drowned. Today it has been raining for some time and I joined a group of seniors on the 7th floor of my parents' retirement home and we watched Braes Bayou rise just to overflowing. There were cars stranded in several places but nothing like Katrina or these videos, thank goodness. |
