Wanting a nearby place to spend some time (RV/camp) without driving for days, I made a site exploration trip today (it’s great to live in the Sierras). I also got my annual USFS NorCal fire permit (NOT a burning permit). The agent AND a ranger that I chatted with later in the day both warned that the permits might be suspended at any time, which rarely happens at all here. It’s still green and blooming ‘up the hill’ (a little snow left too) but that 9K acre timber fire (Panther) is freaking folks out (me too, that was April for cats sakes).
As we used to say at work; this year will have a high ‘pucker’ factor (and it don’t mean kissing, you figure it out).
I’m happy to see the subject line today was almost to our standard (only needed the event type), one of my pet peeves to simplify reading/ignoring posts. Thanks folks for paying attention to that detail, it helps when the fan is um, overloaded.
The expected cold front tomorrow (here) may leave some rain (not likely) but it WILL alter the wind speed and direction, perhaps adversely for the fire. At last the high pressure over the Great Basin has moved on because we’ve had high country wet/dry lightning all week and today was the nicest day yet (still cloudy with lenticular clouds).
Stay safe folks; plan, prepare and be alert.

Achtung Gruppe!
I pulled an All-Dayer at college today so missed all the excitement. I'm heartened and grateful to see so much participation by other members. I do not desire for this group to be my personal posting ground where I am the center of attention and it's all about my posts and you reading them. I do this out of a passion for the subject and out of a desire to encourage by example. However, I would love to see beaucoup participation by the membership like we used to see more of back in the 2000's into early 2010's. Let's get back to that this Fire Season and henceforth. Today was a great start! Let's all just remember to try to keep our posts as weighty as possible. If four significant things develop to report in a ten minute period try to place them on one single message and not four different messages. This is particularly important for those following us by cell phone or tablet.
