The White Fire started Monday, May 27, 2013 at approximately 2:45 pm. Currently the fire has burned 2,025 acres and is threatening 50 residence, 5 commerical properties and 50 outbuildings and other structures. One residence was damaged. The fire is 65% contained. Today there were 6 air tankers, 2 air attacks and 5 helicopters conducting aerial attack. The fire went through Sage Hill Campground but the damage is still unknown. The fire also went through the Forest Service compound and damaged one building and one privately owned vehicle and destroyed another.
As of 6:00 pm today, residence will be allowed to return to their homes. The road closure will remain in place except to residence returning to their homes and showing proof of residency.
Cooperating agencies include: US Forest Service, Santa Barbara County, Santa Barbara City, Carpinteria/Summerland Fire, Montecito Fire, Lompoc Fire, Santa Maria City Fire, Chumash Fire, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue, California Highway Patrol and the American Red Cross.
Resources currently assigned to the fire include: 14 crews, 33 engines, 13 dozers, 8 water tenders, and 86 overhead.

Remarks | California Central Coast Interagency IMT (Nunez) assumed command of the incident at 6:00 am this morning. Initial attack resources remained on the line overnight and secured the west and south flanks of the incident. Crews made good progress on line constructiion on the north and east flanks. Struction threats along the Santa Ynez River and Paradise Road were abated by suppression actions today. Fire lines were tested by high winds in the afternoon and held because of support from fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Base camp has been set up at Live Oak Campground and will be fully functional for the 6:00 pm briefing on May 28. |
