Very informative article. One of those things we don't think about but
has a great influence on our world. There was a made-for-television
special some years ago called "Latitude" that described the race to
develop a highly accurate clock for navigation. The British Royal
Society set up a contest with a handsom prize, and the ensuing story was
full of intrigue. I keep looking for it to come around again but have
never seen any mention of it.
