Re: [californiadisasters] Wildfire - LA Co. / ANF - Powerhouse



Please Note - a Press Conference will be held at base camp in Palmdade at 4:00 p.m. to provide a Fire Update.

Fire was able to come into alignment with slope, winds, low RH and critically dry fuels making extreme head runs on all open divisions with long range spotting and very active backing and flanking fire. Fire spotted and became well developed north of Lake Hughes Road.

Fire Behavior

Fire continued to burn in alignment with slope, winds however fire behavior was somewhat because of moderate humidity. Short range spotting and active backing and flanking fire.

Significant Events

Crews made major progress on the fire north of the aqueduct and were able to build direct line and use roads to contain this portion of the fire.

Evacuation order is in place for large portions of fire area. Power lines and the communities of Green Valley, Lake Hughes, Elizabeth Lake. Critical watershed and T&E species continued to be impacted. Hikers on the PCT are being rerouted to the desert.

The communities of Lake Hughes is under mandatory evacuations and Elisabeth Lake is under a voluntary evacuation order from the Sheriffs. 1000 + structures threatened.

Evacuations remain in place along Lake Hughes Road including two youth probation camps and Cottonwood campground.

Lake Hughes Road has been closed from Cottonwood campground on the North to Lake Castaic on the South.

San Fransciquito Canyon Road remains under a hard closure. Bouquet Canyon Road is under a soft closure open to residence only. Elisabeth Lake Road is under a soft closure open to residence only.

A Red Cross evacuation center is located at Marie

A Type 2 Incident Management Team is currently managing the Fire. A Type 1 Incident Management Team is scheduled to take command of the fire at 6:00 p.m. June 3, 2013

Remarks

This wildfire is burning in steep rugged terrain. Powerlines are located within the vicinity.

Most areas around the fire remain under evacuation orders and shelters are set up. Damage assessment teams are continuing to assess the communities of Lake Hughes and Elizabeth lake and areas north of the aqueduct.
