Space is not a friendly place. I just noticed this on the ARRL site about a Coronal Mass Ejection event that will happen! Also contains a more layman's explanation of A- and K-indices.

It's a measure of solar activity upon our atomosphere. 7 indicates a relatively high level of activity (storm) which can affect High and Medium Frequency Band (2-30MHz) communications. A bad enough event as Coronal Mass ejection will cause NASA to warn ISS crews to seek shelter in protected areas of the space station and can even effect other forms of communications on earth.
