Sept. 10, 2013:  Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) joined the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme, as well as the unincorporated areas of Ventura County as a StormReady and TsunamiReady community. NBVC, which includes three operating facilities of Point Mugu, Port Hueneme, and San Nicolas Island, becomes the only west coast military base in the United States and the second base in the country to be designated both StormReady and TsunamiReady. On Tuesday afternoon, a brief meeting and photo opportunity was held with the NBVC Commanding Officer, Captain Lawrence Vasquez at the Point Mugu military facility. Mark Jackson, Meteorologist-in-Charge for NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard presented the CO with certificates along with StormReady and TsunamiReady signs.
