Re: [californiadisasters] Re: Santa Ana Wind Advisories (11/21/13-PM)

I can't recall having heard the phrase 'Wet Santa Ana Wind' before, but I've been in a few of those events.

I grew up in a neighborhood with lots of eucalyptus trees - you know, very tall, relatively shallow root structure that doesn't stray very far from the trunk...   suffice it to say, we had one of these events blow through one evening, and we spent the next day or two removing trees from roofs, roadways, etc...   I got to play hooky from school - couldn't get there from here - running into the principal (also playing hooky) at the local dining hole remains one of those funny fixed-point memories from grade school  8*)

I seem to remember a more recent event, maybe 10 years ago or so, where I had to go out into the 'back 40' and lash a handful of newly-planted trees against a strong wind/rain event - all I needed was a rolling deck and cargo sliding back and forth to complete the past-life regression  8*)

So these things happen...   not with every season, but I suppose that's what makes them memorable when they do...

Late this afternoon while listening to the Los Padres National Forest on Forest Net give the fire weather forecast and synopsis I heard a surprising prognostication and weather vocabulary word. They called for Santa Ana Winds while enclimate weather was still to be in the area. How often does that happen? Or will the snow and thunderstorms be gone by the time the winds arrive? Also, they referred to this Santa Ana Wind event as a "Wet Santa Ana Wind". WTF?
